Wood Plaster Finishes

This section showcases the finishes used throughout the project.

Distressed wood and mineral finish

This tack room was rich in character but needed greater warmth and color to fully realize its potential. To transform the space, we applied a custom plaster finish enhanced with layered paint treatments and translucent watercolor washes, bringing depth, movement, and a sense of age to the walls. The woodwork was then carefully distressed to complement the newly finished surfaces, creating a harmonious balance between texture, color, and patina. Through layers of glazing and subtle aging techniques, the wood acquired the character of a space that had gracefully evolved over time. The result was a room that retained its rustic authenticity while gaining an added sense of richness and refinement. What had once been a purely functional space became an environment filled with warmth, personality, and the timeless appeal of handcrafted finishes.

Wood plaster finish in subtle neutral tones

This room presented a unique challenge and a wonderful opportunity for artistry. The client had acquired a collection of original French boiserie, whose age, patina, and craftsmanship carried the unmistakable character of centuries past. Our task was to create custom finishes for the new wood paneling that would seamlessly marry the original pieces with the newly installed architectural elements. Through layers of color, glaze, and carefully developed finishing techniques, we recreated the depth, softness, and timeworn elegance of the antique woodwork. Every effort was made to ensure that the transition between old and new felt natural, allowing the paneling to appear as though it had always belonged together. The result was a room where history and craftsmanship existed in harmony. The original French boiserie retained its distinguished presence, while the newly finished paneling extended its beauty throughout the space, creating an interior rich with authenticity, sophistication, and timeless appeal.

Wood plaster finish in layered warm color

The original French boiserie established the character of this room, and our challenge was to carry that same sense of age and history onto the newly installed paneling. We developed a custom wood finish to closely replicate the color, patina, and character of the original, creating a seamless transition between old and new.

Aged custom finish on ceiling woodwork

This home became a showcase for many different custom finishes. On the ceiling woodwork, we built up layers of plaster and paint and then selectively distressed the surface, revealing subtle variations of color and texture that gave the woodwork a beautifully aged character.

Plaster-and-paint finish on aged ceiling beams

These beams were transformed through layers of plaster and paint, then selectively distressed to reveal subtle variations in color and texture, giving them the character of wood naturally aged over time.

Paneled room with a layered, distressed plaster-and-paint finish

One of two paneled rooms transformed through layers of plaster and paint, followed by subtle watercolor washes and selective distressing. The process created a richly layered surface with nuanced color, depth, and the character of a finish that had evolved naturally over time.
